Nic was really brilliant when he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in February 2007. He adopted a very positive attitude, & he wanted to carry on doing walks for as long as possible, see friends & family as much as possible, & go to work for as long as possible. So he did all those things over the next few months, & we also fitted in trips to Mid-Wales, North Wales, Finland & Austria. While his muscles fizzled away he didn't succumb to depression or look sad, but really seemed to enjoy the things he could still do. MND is a cruel disease, & by early November that year Nic could only just walk, only just speak, & only just swallow. When he died really peacefully in his sleep his mother & I were so glad he had escaped any further suffering, because the final stages of the illness can mean staying alive, but unable to move a single muscle.
